PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks had their ace on the mound and drew seven walks at the plate. It wasnt good enough against the Los Angeles Dodgers.Kenta Maeda limited the Diamondbacks to a run on three hits over five innings in a 3-2 victory on Friday night. Arizona scored a run on almost automatic closer Kenley Jansen in the bottom of the ninth, but came up short.Maeda (15-9) struck out six and has seven wins is his last 10 starts. He outdueled Greinke, a former Dodger who allowed only one earned run.Greinke (12-7) gave up three runs on four hits, struck out four and walked four. The Dodgers lead in the NL West remained four games over second-place San Francisco. My slider was pretty (bad) all day, Greinke said. So I didnt really have many options after that. I didnt realize I had that many walks until I saw the stats. I felt in control of situations, besides the first inning. The Los Angeles bullpen held the Diamondbacks to three hits over four innings, with six relievers combining for six strikeouts. Jansen gave up Chris Owings triple and a long sacrifice fly by Paul Goldschmidt in the ninth, but got Jake Lamb to ground out into the defensive shift to end the game for his 45th save.Reliever Joe Blanton walked the bases loaded in the bottom of the eighth, but got pinch-hitter Rickie Weeks Jr. to hit into a force play to end the inning. If he would have walked Weeks right there to get (Jean) Segura, I would have had Kenley come in. But Joe has been a guy for us all year long, and I trust him and hes been there before, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. The Dodgers scored twice off Greinke in the first. Chase Utley led off with a double and took third on a wild pitch. With one out, Justin Turner tripled to right field, just beating the relay throw with a slide, and came home on a passed ball.Maedas momentary lack of control in the bottom of the second helped the Diamondbacks get a run. Welington Castillo singled and Maeda walked Yasmany Tomas and Brandon Drury with one out. Mitch Hanigers fielders choice drove in Castillo, but Arizona stranded runners at the corners. The Dodgers made it 3-1 in the fourth. Adrian Gonzalez scored from second base on a force when Seguras throw to first for a double play got past Goldschmidt for an error. Howie Kendrick reached on the play.Segura made up for his error, at least some, by flagging down a ball hit up the middle by Maeda that looked headed for center field and an RBI. Segura threw out Maeda to end the inning. The Diamondbacks put the first two batters on base in the sixth, but Dodgers reliever Josh Fields pitched out of the jam. Arizonas bullpen held Los Angeles to one hit over three innings, but the Diamondbacks four-game win streak ended. We left a lot of guys on base, Diamondbacks manager Chip Hale said. Too many strikeouts, but they pitched well. Maeda pitched well again. We cant seem to solve him. The one thing we did was run his pitch count pretty high to get him out of the game, but their bullpen is very good, especially when you get to the last guy.UFC, KNIGHT IN THE HOUSEUFC athletes Forrest Griffin (retired), Cub Swanson, Johnny Case and 2008 Olympic wrestling gold medalist Henry Cejudo, who is from Phoenix, took part in the ceremonial first pitch and met with fans before Fridays game. Also, former Indiana basketball coach Bob Knight attended, watching the game from a suite.UP NEXTDodgers: Bud Norris was originally the scheduled starter, but the Dodgers will go with rookie RHP Brock Stewart on Saturday. Stewart (1-2) beat the Diamondbacks on Sept. 7 and will be making his fifth start of the season. Norris will be available out of the bullpen.Diamondbacks: RHP Shelby Miller (2-11) faces the Dodgers for the seventh time in his career and the fifth start. He is 1-2 with a 7.02 ERA in his career against L.A. Blake Wheeler Jets Jersey . Toronto has dropped games to Indiana and Miami since a five-game winning streak and closed out a three-game road trip at 1-2. Bryan Little Jets Jersey . Brandon Morrow allowed five runs on six hits over three innings. He struck out two, walked one and hit a batter. Edwin Encarnacion had a two-out, bases loaded two-RBI double in the third inning. http://www.jetsauthentic.com/authentic-dale-hawerchuk-jets-jersey/ . -- The Bishops Gaiters are showing they belong among the countrys top varsity football teams. Josh Morrissey Jersey . Fred Couples, captain of the U.S. side, put it all into perspective. "We know whos in charge," he said. Dustin Byfuglien Jets Jersey . Marincin has played in two NHL games so far this season with two penalty minutes. The 21-year-old has three goals, four assists and a plus-5 rating in 24 games with the American Hockey Leagues Oklahoma City Barons this season. OLYMPICSMOSCOW -- Russias top Olympic official says he expects a final decision by Sunday on whether the entire Russian team will be banned from next months games in Rio.The International Olympic Committee is examining the legal options following a report by World Anti-Doping Agency investigator Richard McLaren that accused Russias sports ministry of overseeing doping of the countrys Olympic athletes.Russian Olympic Committee president Alexander Zhukov says the issue will be finally resolved by the end of this week, probably on Sunday. The Court of Arbitration for Sport will issue its verdict Thursday on Russias appeal to overturn the IAAF ban on its track and field athletes for the games. The IOC will take that into account before making its own decision.RIO DE JANEIRO -- The World Anti-Doping Agency said it has reinstated the laboratory that will carry out drug testing for the Rio de Janeiro Olympics, which start in just over two weeks. The lab was shuttered last month for what WADA called nonconformity with International Standard for Laboratories. In a statement, WADA says the Rio laboratory has successfully complied with the ISLs requirements for reinstatement and no further suspension is required. The statement will be a relief for local organizers and the International Olympic Committee, which would have been forced to send thousands of samples abroad for testing. The Rio Olympics have faced myriad problems: the Zika epidemic, soaring crime and security worries, slow ticket sales and severe water pollution in venues for sailing, rowing, canoeing, triathlon and distance swimming.COLLEGE FOOTBALLPRINCETON, N.J. -- The Ivy League will use an experimental rule this season to move kickoffs to the 40-yard line and touchbacks to the 20-yard line in an effort to reduce concussions and further promote the safety and welfare of its student-athletes.The goal of the experimental rule is to limit kickoff returns, which account for 23.4 percent of concussions during games despite representing only 5.8 percent of overall plays. The Ivy League will evaluate the concussion and kickoff return data after the season. The request was made to the NCAA as a part of The Ivy Leagues overall review of concussions, which began with football in 2010 and has included eight other sports to date (mens and womens lacrosse, mens and womens ice hockey, mens and womens soccer, wrestling, rugby). It will only be used in conference games.AUTO RACINGINDIANAPOLIS -- Dale Earnhardt Jr. will not race again this month because of concussion-like symptoms and the No. 88 car will be turned over to trusted former teammate Jeff Gordon for the next two weeks.Hendrick Motorsports announced that Earnhardt has not yet been cleared to drive by doctors and will miss Sundays Brickyard 400 as well as next weekends race at Pocono. NASCARs most popular driver has been battling balance issues and nausea since a July 2 crash at Daytona.Earnhardt pulled himself out of the car last weekend in New Hampshire and was replaced by Alex Bowman. After another medical evaluation Tuesday in Pittsburgh, doctors told Earnhardt to take more timme off.dddddddddddd.Team owner Rick Hendrick says the team is looking forward to having NASCARs most popular driver back racing soon.Gordon is the only five-time winner of the Brickyard 400 and race organizers billed the 2015 race as his last ride in Indy. Since retiring at the end of last season, he served primarily as a commentator for Fox Sports.SOCCERLONDON -- Russias hosting of the World Cup is becoming increasingly problematic for FIFAs leaders after the International Olympic Committee withdrew support for sporting events being staged in the doping-tainted nation. The IOCs move followed this weeks second damning World Anti-Doping Agency report, which accused Russia of state-sponsored doping. The scandal landed at FIFAs door after Russian soccer was for the first time implicated in the alleged doping cover-up by a country that has been entrusted with soccers most prestigious event in 2018.Sports Minister Vitaly Mutko, whose department is accused of orchestrating the deception, is also head of the countrys soccer federation and is a member of FIFAs ruling council.Soccers governing body is standing by the 2018 hosts -- just as it has done throughout six years of scrutiny since the contentious vote to hand the World Cup to Russia for the first time.HOCKEYNASHVILLE, Tenn. -- A chancellor will rule within the week on whether a co-owner of the Nashville Predators can keep his lawsuit against the teams ownership group in a Tennessee court or have to submit to arbitration.Chancellor Ellen Hobbs Lyle heard nearly three hours of arguments on a motion that would force David Freeman out of her court and back into arbitration with NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman.Freeman, a former team chairman, sued Predators Holdings LLC and current team chairman Tom Cigarran on June 23 and is seeking $250 million in damages for his original 48 percent stake in the team being diluted. The lawsuit states that Freeman, through Commodore Trust, organized the Holdings investment group in 2007 to keep the Predators in Nashville. But it charges that some Holdings members have conspired to repay his dedication to the team and community by claiming that Commodore owns less than one percent of Holdings.COLLEGE BASKETBALLKNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- The NCAA has donated $50,000 to the Pat Summitt Foundation in memory of the late Tennessee coach. The money will go toward the Summitt Foundations goal of raising $2.5 million for the Pat Summitt Alzheimers Clinic at the University of Tennessee Medical Center, which is scheduled to open in December.Foundation director Patrick Wade thanked the NCAA for its support in the fight against Alzheimers. The NCAAs donation and money donated since Summitt died June 28 will be used for research, treatment and support of Alzheimers patients and families in Tennessee.Summitt was the winningest Division I college basketball coach with 1,098 wins over 38 seasons.
