Bengal v Baroda, Calcutta, 1998-99 The Ranji debut against Baroda happened in 1999 in the knock-out stages at the Cricket and Football Ground in Calcutta on the back of good performances in the local league and club cricket. I got back-to-back 170s and I was picked as a specialist batsman, not as a wicketkeeper-batsman. Saba [Karim] was still in the team and was the captain and keeper. The team management asked me on the eve of the match if I would open; I said, fine. I had the experience of opening in the Under-19s, and I always considered myself as a batsman who could play anywhere.I remember I was a bit nervous. I spoke to my parents, who were in Delhi, over the the phone. But at that point of time you are young, you wanted to go out there and just play Ranji Trophy. We [Bengal] won the toss and asked them [Baroda] to bat first. Baroda batted for two days I think and put on a 500-plus score, Jacob [Martin] hit a double-hundred. I was fielding at silly-point for quite a while and it was a different feeling. There were times that I was fielding at square leg, fine leg, and even mid-on. It wasnt difficult, but it was alright; it was just that I wasnt used to it.Then it was our turn to bat after they were all out. A senior and somebody I also looked up to was Shrikant Kalyani; he made a fifty in my debut match. I had a good partnership with him. The day before the game he had these lovely shorts; he owned a sportswear company. I told him, I love these shorts yaar. Why dont you get me one? He replied he would get one if I score a hundred. I didnt take it seriously back then. But after coming back to the dressing room, after getting a hundred, I saw the piece of clothing on my bag. I dont remember the first ball I faced, but I distinctly remember that incident.I did not immediately realise the importance of the hundred. I was just involved in batting and wanted to play on. Making a Ranji debut was a big thing, you feel all the nervousness at the start. Baroda were a good team and Bengal did not have a good record in the knockout stages in those days.Luckily, Nikhil Haldipur opened with me. We used to spend a lot of time on the field and off the field too. We would go on to play in the same club for years. When I was nervous, he would walk up to me and say, Hey, just play like you do normally. Nikhil was also senior pro, he was into his fourth season of Ranji Trophy or something in 1999, and we shared a good rapport. After getting set, I felt I belonged there. I remember I used to sweep a lot, right from mid-on to fine leg. There was a left-arm spinner in the Baroda side, but I kept sweeping. If the fielder was square, I would place it fine. I backed my game, which was about not driving and not being too defensive. Sweep was my bread and butter and I liked to play my shots.Sharing the dressing room with Rohan [Gavaskar] and youngsters like Ranadeb [Bose], who made his debut a couple of matches in the league stage before I debuted at the knockouts, was also great. I had played club cricket with Shrikant and I had also played alongside Rohan before. The familiarity with the players helped me [settle down]. Safi [Ahmed] also made his debut with me. We go back a long way, we played Under-19s together, he batted at No. 6 and I had got out before him. Safi hung on and was not out in the 20s.Then there was Saba, you just wanted to look at people like him and learn. It was a jump from local cricket, Under-19s, to Ranji Trophy and I have been told things are not the same at the higher level. It was about trying to look around the dressing room and figure out how they prepared differently from a club game. When I look back, scoring a hundred on debut was immense. There were no mobile phones then; there were a lot of calls on the landline, and I spoke to my parents again, this time there was happiness, instead of nervousness. I got my sponsors, and acknowledgement from my parents, which was more special obviously. Because I was staying in Calcutta, away from my parents who were in Delhi, there was a lot of sacrifice involved both from myself and the family. Finally I felt it was worth all that. The debut was also massive considering Saba was still the captain and was keeping. He was the senior player in the state and also an India player. Getting a chance and telling people that I belong here made a difference. If I hadnt got a hundred, it would have been a different ball game altogether. There were other younger guys and a senior called Humza [Ferozie], who was also in the reckoning. The debut hundred was a big deal for me. Bryan Holaday Jersey . -- Vincent Lecavalier got everything but the desired result in his return to Tampa Bay. Andre Dawson Jersey . Jay Feely kicked a 41-yard field goal in overtime, and the Cardinals edged the Tennessee Titans 37-34 in overtime after blowing a 17-point lead late in the fourth quarter. http://www.marlinsteamproshop.com/Marlins-Starlin-Castro-Kids-Jersey/ . Andreas Johnson had a goal and two assists while Jacob de la Rose also scored for Sweden (2-0-0). Esa Lindell and Rasmus Ristolainen replied for Finland (1-1-0) Lindell opened the scoring for Finland just 41 seconds into the game, but the hosts quickly regained their composure and tied the score less than four minutes later on Wennbergs first of the game. JT Riddle Jersey . -- Playing time has been limited for Maxim Tissot this season, so the Montreal Impact defender made the most of his first scoring opportunity on Saturday. Jose Fernandez Jersey . Thats about all he can do right now, so hes trying not to think about when he might be able to play again for the Los Angeles Lakers. The injury hex hanging over the San Diego Chargers struck again Sunday, this time taking running back Melvin Gordon out of at least the game with a hip injury. All eyes now fall on Kenneth Farrow, who ran 16 times for 55 yards in Week 14, while adding six receptions for 23.WHO IS KENNETH FARROW?The rookie running back for the Chargers is adept at two very important things for a Chargers running back. According to a 2016 pre-draft analysis by Pro Football Focus, Farrow is borderline masterful at pass-catching and blocking. PFFs Wes Huber noted that Farrow has next-level blocking chops and managed to secure every catchable target thrown his way over his final two seasons in college (Farrow caught all six of his targets Sunday in a loss to the Panthers). With a 5-8 record, the Chargers arent officially eliminated from playoff contention, but its going to be a tough task to pick up more than one win the rest of the way, with games against Oakland and Kansas City among their last three. San Diego may find it wise to have Gordon sit out at least one game and see what they have in Farrow. For fantasy purposes, this makes Farrow a must-add, especially if hes going to be a threat in the running and passing game.THEN AGAIN, THERES ALSO RONNIE HILLMANInactive since the Chargers signed him just before Thanksgiving, Ronnie Hillman probably wont leapfrog Farrow on the depth chart, but he could see some carries if Gordon misses significant time. Fantasy analysts stress that owners should make sure their bench is full of handcuffs (the direct backup to running backs) during the playoffs. Hillman is likely the new handcuff to Farrow in San Diego, and should be a lower-level waiver wire target as we enter Week 15.ONE FINAL CHARGERS NOTEAntonio Gates is just two touchdowns away from tying the tight end-record of 111 career scores held by Tony Gonzalez. Gates hasnt had a touchdown in the last three weeks, so expect him to see plenty of red zone targets over this final 2016 stretch. Likely owned in most season-long formats, Gates is a smart play in daily fantasy football lineups going forward, at least as hes making a run at this record.NON-CHARGERS MISCEELLANY- Ryan Tannehills torn ACL thrusts Matt Moore into the starting job for the Dolphins.dddddddddddd This could be an interesting fantasy play in deep and daily formats, as Moore has a talented group of wideouts in Jarvis Landry, DeVante Parker, and deep threat Kenny Stills.- Terrelle Pryor picked a terrible week to have his worst game of the season, catching one pass for three yards on three targets Sunday against Cincinnati. While its easy to point out that this was also Robert Griffin IIIs first game since Week 1 and he is the culprit, Bengals cornerback Adam Jones tore into Pryor in his postgame comments, suggesting that there was extra motivation to keep Pryor out of the game. Griffins preseason connection with Pryor was what initially turned many fantasy drafters on to the converted quarterback, so expect Pryor to be back to normal against the Bills next week.- Bears wide receiver Alshon Jeffery is back from suspension this week, and it would be wise for owners to check their waiver wires for him, as hes only owned in 66 percent of CBSSports.com leagues. Some upset former owners may have released Jeffery, believing hed be out for the rest of the season.- Justin Forsett -- who excelled in 2014 under Broncos coach Gary Kubiak in Baltimore (1,266 rushing yards and eight touchdowns) -- was given the first carry Sunday against the Titans and eventually outgained Devontae Booker, six carries to three and 17 yards to 1, despite fumbling on that first carry. Forsett had success in 2014 partially because he had already played in the Kubiak system with Houston in 2012. This looks increasingly like a situation where Forsett could be the lead back for the Broncos going forward. A tough matchup in Week 15 against the Patriots isnt the ideal situation to trot out Forsett as your starting running back, but for teams that may have lost Melvin Gordon, he should manage 12-15 touches and produce in a system he knows.---This column was provided to The Associated Press by the Fantasy Sports Network, http://FNTSY.com ' ' '
